Steve Shermett is an American film actor and television host. He is also an active producer and casting director. Known for his supporting roles in the feature films “Amazed by you” (Prime) and “Fronteras” (Netflix) as well as the television series “The Chosen” 86,000,000 views 100% Rotten Tomatos, 9.7 IMDb) Steve will soon appear as one of the leads in the upcoming western “The Righteous Twelve.” Theatrical release July 2021.
FMM: You are best known for your roles in feature films, “Amazed by you,” and “Fronteras.” How did these two roles challenge you as an Actor?
Since filming these two roles I have filmed “The Chosen” (Season 1 eps 4&8) and Mr. Mayor for NBC (Season 1 eps 9). All four of these roles were different “types.” I played a modern cop in Fronteras, I played a Pastor with a comedic side on “Amazed by You”. Then I played a 1st century Rabbi with a middle eastern dialect for “The Chosen” and I played a modern comedic Rabbi for Mr. Mayor. The challenges were trying to bring a different feel or vibe to each character. Loved every minute of it though! (Honestly… it wasn’t that challenging 🙂
FMM: Did your upbringing influence your decision to act?
We had an “assembly” in middle school. The local High School brought their drama troupe and did a musical theater number for us. I was entranced. I determined at the moment that I would become an actor. When I got into high school I did plays and musical theater. I learned to sing, dance and act. I became President of the drama club at school and began in local community theater and the local Civic Light Opera while in High School.
FMM: Tell us about “The Chosen.” What did you enjoy the most?
I’m a retired minister. Performing in “The Chosen” is where art meets my spirit. It’s the perfect combintination for me. I enjoy most genres of film but there is a special place in my heart for faith based films. I’ll be flying out to Indiana in a couple of weeks to film the award winning “Pulled from Darkness” with emmy winner George Johnson (director). It’s a true story of faith and perseverance of a woman who was sold into sex trafficking. I can not wait to see this come to screen and change lives. My feature film “The Righteous Twelve” with Avondale Pictures (actor- producer) hits theaters on July 4th. It’s a western film (bar fights, gun fights, horses) but also with a faith twist.
FMM: What would people be surprised to know about you?
I have a black belt in Ju-jitsu (retired).
FMM: What’s next for you?
It was great doing a comedic role on NBC’s Mr. Mayor. I hope to do more comedy this year. I also loved filming on horseback and doing the mild stunt work in The Righteous twelve. Hoping for more Westerns as well… Ahhh heck I just want to make more movies and TV shows!

I have enjoyed watching Steve Shermett for quite sometime. He is my rabbi before he became an actor. He is very good at both.
Congratulations, Steve! I learned something new about you…Black Belt in Ju-jitsu. That’s awesome! I’m a fan of your work. Thank you for the entertainment.
Your performance on Mr. Mayor made me laugh.
I can’t wait to see Pulled from Darkness! I’m looking forward to seeing more of your work.
Jules Lavallee, thank you for this piece.
