Brooklyn, NY- Actor, Writer, and Director, Omar Moore grew up as an only child surrounded by talented family members and friends who were writers,
athletes, and entertainers. 2020 was a hugely successful year for Omar where he co-starred, directed, and produced alongside Shawn Cornelius in the film, “Whatever it Takes, When Blood Runs Cold.” Now, he is about to direct a book that sold over 50,000 copies and that so many people enjoyed called Gangster’s Melody written by Author Sean A. Wright.

FMM: You come from a talented family of writers. Tell us about your background.

I started out writing poems when I was a kid. I use to read and listen to the material my mother wrote. I use to be amazed at the stories she would create. and said to myself one day I want to do the same. Little did I know that later in life I would be transforming my writing abilities into plays and screenplays. Coming from a family of writers most would say that would be expected but, anyone that knows about writing will tell you that’s not true. Either you have it or you don’t. What is equally strange is the way that my stories come to me. As long as I can remember they would come to me in my dreams. It was almost like watching a new movie in my sleep, I would wake up looking to see if the TV was on, but never wasn’t. That’s when I realized what was happening to me. It was a God giving blessing that embarked on to me. So, it was either I ignored it or embraced it.

FMM: Tell us about your award-winning film, “Whatever It Takes”, When Blood Runs Cold.

The movie Whatever it Takes, When Blood runs Cold is my first film project that I co-starred, directed, and produced alongside Shawn Cornelius, The process of writing it from the play version he had it to film was challenging as well as a lot of fun. Shooting it was even more fun and shared so many laughs. So many different personalities, actors, comedians all made a great movie that was nominated Best Film of the Harlem Online Festival. An achievement I’m proud of for our first film. We also accomplished to sell-out 4 theatres on 42nd street Regal theatre on opening night. There are still things happening behind the scenes with the movie that I’m not at liberty to disclose but you can view it on the D-H one TV Network. Be on the lookout for more of Whatever it Takes.

FMM: Share your favorite projects.

Wow, that is a difficult questions because as a creator each project holds something special in your heart. Let’s see, my first film I wrote, directed and produced called Web of Lies, or it could be my first musical I did called “Back in the Dayz” that was dedicated to my mother. It started out as a play and now I’m looking to turn it into a film. With some tremendous singers that are under the radar and some very good acting makes it such a feel good production. Then there is my recent project I’m doing called the Way we were, Co-vid stories. So to try and answer your question I would have to say they all are special in their own way.

2020 Kicked off the year with the award- winning Whatever it Takes, then I was supposed to start the series of Paper but, we were hit with the pandemic. So, we had to shut everything down. After a few months and a struggle with COVID we got Web of Lies rolling. My first film I wrote, directed, produced and starred in. With a talented cast and great staff we got three quarters of the way thru. We had to pause again because of the pandemic and numbers spiking but, now we’re about to get back to production. In the meantime I began shooting a short series called The Way we were, Co-vid stories which I am very excited about. This is a series of stories of incident that happen during the pandemic from families, friends, and individuals. Things that people can relate to people were going thru during the pandemic. Look out for it.

FMM: How have you grown as a Writer?

I have grown tremendously as a writer and a creator. The material is pouring out of me so fast that I can’t get it down quick enough. When I first started I use to struggle with creating ideas of projects and how to put them together but, now it’s like nothing to put a project together. Although I feel so confident about my craft I would never disrespect it because, there is still so much to learn. A friend once told me that when you feel like you have nothing else to learn and you are satisfied then you can’t continue to grow. There is so much more I need to and want to learn.

FMM: You were in the short film called, Now is not the time. Written and directed by Jermaine Smith. What did you enjoy the most?

Yes, Now is not the time is a short film that was written, directed, and produced by Jermaine Smith. He is a very talented writer and film maker which you will be seeing and hearing a lot of in the near future. The film was about women that suffered with PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome) and how they deal with it. I really enjoy playing roles that help people in some way. Bringing awareness to this was something that was much needed and can be viewed on Amazon Prime. Stay tune more to come.

FMM: What’s next for you?

I am about to direct a book called, Gangster’s Melody written by Author Sean A. Wright. I’m looking forward to this challenge of bringing those words to life on the screen. Directing someone else work is challenging and you want to do the best job possible to match their work.. I am excited and look forward to casting great actors that will bring this story to life.
