WHERE FORMIDABLE MEN TRAVEL
We hear women are always in the know—at work, at home… But so are men! Why should on the road be any different? If you’re considering a getaway this year (and, yes, you absolutely should), we’ve got you covered with the premier travel destinations… for any travel style preference. Want some family time? A luxury beach vacation? Prefer adventure travel? It’s all right here. So, keep reading and start planning, fellas!
BOSS MEN TRAVEL
Are you need of some big city energy? Then Tokyo might be the place for you this year. Japan has landed on some big-name travel lists this year (CNN Travel, Harper’s Bazaar), and the city of Tokyo is the epicenter of it all. Nothing short of exhilarating, think New York City on steroids.
For the latest in fashion, go to Ginza or Harajuku. Visit Akihabara for the latest technology. Have a couple drinks in the Golden Gai district. And, while Tokyo is indeed home to the busiest crosswalk in the world, it also offers countless temples, shrines, and gardens for reprieve… right in the middle of downtown. The Tokyo transportation system is comprehensive and easy to manage, and the 199-mile-per-hour bullet train can get you to neighboring cities fast. However you choose to spend your time, you won’t be disappointed. Tokyo is the ultimate boss destination for 2021.
Tokyo Travel Tip: Sign up for travel notifications with TravelZoo or Scott’s Cheap Flights, and keep an eye out for shoulder season prices. Roundtrip flights to Asia from the east coast regularly drop as low as $500; that’s cheaper than some U.S. locations.
LUXURY BEACH GETAWAYS
Of course you dream of drinks at some luxurious beach resort. And locations like the Mediterranean or Mexico completely embody that vision. But did you know that native Europeans frequent the Bulgarian Black Sea coast for their beach vacations? It’s true. The best part? It’s a French Riviera experience at Cabo prices… if you get there now.
Yes, Bulgaria is very much off the beaten path. But so are formidable men. And this eastern European country is one of the hottest up-and-coming destinations on the map. The city of Varna is the third largest in Bulgaria, and the main beach resort area on the coast. Book a 5-star hotel, with spa services, during peak season for as low as $100 a night. Enjoy the beach, and definitely enjoy the nightlife. Take a day trip down to Sozopol or Nessebar and stroll through charming, medieval towns with wooden houses. For a beach getaway that’s anything but forgettable, the Black Sea coast is the place to be.
Bulgaria Travel Tip: Flight prices to Bulgaria start dropping in August, and the savings you’ll cash in on once there more than make up for any flight costs you incur. Book one flight to Sofia and a separate flight to Varna for only $100; it’s cheaper than booking straight to Varna.
#DADLIFE TRAVEL
Want a budget- and family-friendly destination? The Azores are it. These Portuguese islands in the middle of the Atlantic are the latest travel craze to hit the United States, and they’re definitely worth a visit. Tropical islands with a European flair, the Azores are an inexpensive and unique family destination.
You can relax at any of the nine islands and move pretty freely between them, but the capital city is Ponta Delgada on São Miguel. Take a stroll downtown and admire the colonial architecture. Stop by the maritime fortress and climb the city clock tower. Take the kids whale and dolphin watching or snorkeling at Vila Franca do Campo. Or just have a simple day at any one of the gorgeous beaches available. Ponta Delgada is an obvious São Miguel home base, but you can get from one end of the island to the other by rental car in less than two hours, so you have some flexibility with your accommodations choices and prices.
Azores Travel Tip: Groupon regularly features flight-inclusive, week-long Azores packages for anywhere from $500–$700 per person. Most flights currently leave from Boston, but expect that to start changing this year… quickly. Once there, the prices will amaze you.
