FMM: Please introduce yourself to our readers.

Dr. Ron: I am a podiatrist (foot doctor) and public figure living in the Atlanta area. I have been practicing medicine for more than 20 years. I was born in a small town in South Carolina called Mullins. I have appeared on several television programs including the Emmy Award winning talk show The Doctors, Bravo’s Real Housewives of Atlanta and Married to Medicine, TV One’s Sister Circle and The Weather Channel. My first book was published in 2013 and is an inspirational autobiography. Currently I host a social media show called “Trust Me I’m Dr. Ron”.

FMM: What drew you into the medical field?

Dr. Ron: My love for medicine was birthed after I spent a summer working as an intern at the Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, SC. My passion for helping others was elevated after this experience.

FMM: How do you feel your occupation is changing the world?

Dr. Ron: Podiatry has come a long way. My practice sees lots of patients who are diabetic who need foot care on a regular basis. I’m allowed to not only treat these patients but give them practical advice on how to better their overall health. As far as my social media presence, my platform has allowed me to educate and share to massive numbers of people the benefits of overall health: mental, physical and emotional.

FMM: Do you feel that there is a great need for diversity in the medical field?

Dr. Ron: There is a great need for diversity in the medical field. According to AAMC, among active physicians, 56.2% identified as White, 17.1% identified as Asian, 5.8% identified as Hispanic and 5.0% identified as Black or African American. At my office we are always open to having students stop by and shadow to get a taste of what medicine is like, in hopes that they will choose this as their career path.

FMM: If you weren’t a doctor, what would you be?

Dr. Ron: If I wasn’t a doctor, I would probably consider law.

FMM: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Dr. Ron: If I could travel anywhere in the world, it would be Paris, France.

FMM: How can our readers connect with you outside of this interview?
